From Cézanne to Chabaud – Around Fauvism in Provence

6 May to 11 November

Autour du Fauvisme en Provence – Les Fauves provençaux, an exhibition on an avant-garde movement that shook up the codes of painting in the early 20th century, presented by the Musée Brayer. On view from 6 May to 11 November 2024 in Les Baux-de-Provence.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Paul Cézanne brought with him a whole generation of artists who were to change the course of art history. These “Fauves” exhibited at the Salons, where their avant-garde paintings caused a scandal.

Some of them were from Provence: René Seyssaud, Charles Camoin, Pierre Girieud, Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan, Alfred Lombard and Auguste Chabaud.

Their works will accompany those of Paul Cézanne, for the duration of an exhibition presented by the Musée Brayer, in Les Baux-de-Provence. A moment suspended in the light-bathed gaze of these painters from the south of France.
